2018 ASID CA Peninsula Gold Design Excellence Award for Residential Transitional Single Family Residence Over 3,000 Sq. Ft.
This California family likes to entertain, ride horses and collect wine. As such, we were challenged to create intimate spaces throughout a large-scale floorplan and select appropriate finishes and furnishings that supported their lifestyle, reflected the contemporary Craftsman architecture and harmonized with the view of the hills.
To create intimate spaces, we used large scale items to define zones in the Great Room, such as 72” diameter chandelier, an over-sized coffee table and large drop pendants over the kitchen island. The same approach was used in the kitchen, with three large drop pendants over the island to bring the height of the room in balance with the human perspective.
To address the clients wine collection, we created visible wine storage as focal point in the Dining Room. We showcased the piano against a dimensional stone wall creating a juxtaposition of sheen and matte; refined and rugged.
